38. PK / Penalty System

The PK / Penalty System governs player-versus-player (PvP) combat and applies penalties to players who unlawfully kill other players.
Players can initiate PvP by holding Ctrl and left- or right-clicking another player.
When a player successfully kills another player, they accumulate Kill Points, which determine their PK Level and the corresponding penalties applied to their character.
Self-Defense
When a player is attacked first, the Self-Defense system is activated, allowing them to retaliate without being considered the aggressor.
The player who initiates combat receives the Initiator Flag for 30 seconds.
If no player is killed before the timer expires, the Self-Defense status ends automatically.
Kill Points
Kill Points are penalty points earned for killing other players.
Initial PK Progression
| Player Kills | Result |
|---|---|
| 1 Kill | PK Level 1 |
| 2 Kills | PK Level 2 |
| 3 Kills | PK Level 3 |
Once a player reaches PK Level 3, each additional player kill grants 3,000 Kill Points.
PK Levels are determined by the total number of accumulated Kill Points, affecting both the character's name color and the penalties imposed by the system.
PK Levels
| PK Level | Icon | Kill Point |
|---|---|---|
| PK Level 1 | ![]() | 1 - 20,000 |
| PK Level 2 | ![]() | 20,001 - 40,000 |
| PK Level 3 | ![]() | 40,001 - 80,000+ |
Kill Points continue to accumulate beyond 80,000, although the player remains at PK Level 3.
Kill Point Reduction
Kill Points gradually decrease over time.
-
Kill Points are reduced by 2 points per second.
-
When Kill Points fall below a PK Level threshold, the player's PK Level is automatically reduced.
-
Once Kill Points reach 0, the player returns to normal status.
Players can also reduce Kill Points by hunting monsters. Each monster defeated further reduces Kill Points based on its level.
Example: Defeating a Level 2 Spider reduces Kill Points by an additional 2 points.
PK Penalties
Each PK Level carries progressively more severe penalties.
| PK Level | Penalty |
|---|---|
| PK Level 1 | Unable to interact with Shop NPCs. |
| PK Level 2 | Warp costs are increased by 10×, and the character always respawns in Lorencia. |
| PK Level 3 | Monster EXP is reduced to 50%. Death by monsters incurs a 10% EXP penalty instead of the normal 1%, and the player cannot enter Non-PvP Channels. |
These penalties make unlawful PvP increasingly risky, encouraging players to carefully consider the consequences before attacking others.
Hero Status
Players who successfully defeat a PK Level 3 player are awarded Hero Status.
The duration of Hero Status scales with the number of PK Level 3 players defeated.
-
Defeat 1 PK Level 3 → Gain Hero Status for 1 hour
-
Defeat 3 PK Level 3 → Gain Hero Status for 3 hours
Hero Status recognizes players who help eliminate high-level PK offenders and contribute to maintaining order within the game world.
Penalty Scroll
Players may use a Penalty Scroll to reduce their PK Level.
- Each Penalty Scroll lowers the player's PK Level by one tier.
Example:
| Before Use | After Use |
|---|---|
| PK Level 3 | PK Level 2 |
| PK Level 2 | PK Level 1 |
| PK Level 1 | Normal Status |
After using a Penalty Scroll, the player's Kill Points are automatically adjusted to the appropriate range for the new PK Level.
PK Level 3 Appearance
Players with PK Level 3 are visually distinguished from other players.
Their appearance changes as follows:
-
Character name is displayed in red.
-
Armor and Wings are displayed with a red color tint.
-
Other players may attack them immediately without holding Ctrl.
These visual indicators allow players to quickly identify high-level PK offenders throughout the game world.
